All the original cables on the 1g's came with an adjustment on BOTH cables. Only the gear selector cable is the one that may need adjustment.
So if you buy brand new cables for a 91 to 94 awd dsm, you will notice only one of them is adjustable. New cables don't come with an adjustment on both. Its normal, you can use the cables you have as a spare, as long as they are from a 91+. When you pull them out you will notice they are the same length.
Also your car is a 91 so it already has a 91+ shifter base, so you don't need to bother changing it.
The difference b/w 90 and 91+ cables is about an inch.
Jon is right, without touching anything else on a 91+ car, running a 90 tranny will give you a nice short throw.
This is the way I am running my car right now, original shifter base, 91+ cables, all 91+ tranny shifter link brackets, and a 90 switchable trans, which has the shorter gear selector arm. Since a 91 plus car, has a longer cable for the gear selector, running a shorter arm(90 trans), will give you a short throw
So all else equal except for that shorter gear selector arm, you have a short throw, as the 91+ gear selector arm on the trans is longer.
The other arm, left/right is the same for all 90 to 94 dsm's.
