5 Speed 93 ES with 260k. I have had it since 120k and believe everything is still original except tranny fluid which I flushed with GM Syncromesh back at 140k.

Lately, when clutch pedal is depressed to the floor, there is very little gap from there until it wants to grab. It feels like less than 1" easily. And with that, the tranny is a pain to shift (very notchy and crunchy)as I believe the clutch is not engaging fully for me to shift.

This just appeared in the last 2 weeks but is now getting progressively worst.

Your thoughts?

Hello Jorge.

Odds are that your Clutch is slowly dieing. You "might" be able to ease the shifting by adjusting the Clutch Pedal a bit.

Ghislain.

Could also be a leak at the master or slave.

Could also be a bad clutch pedal assemble, thats how mine acted, but you can test this by pushing the pedal in and out a couple of times and then reach down to see if you can pull the clutch pedal up by hand, if you can pull it up the assembley is worn out where the lever (that attaches to the slave rod) is attached to the clutch pedal shaft, so you end up losing travel when pressing the clutch, a sqeaky pedal is also a sign of wear in the plastic bushings.

I checked for the adjustment nut down by the gas pedal assembly as what is shown in the vfaq.com. I can see that I am locked the furthest away from the master cylinder but I am having a hard time getting the adjustment rod to move. It won't budge even though the locking nut has been loosened.

Ok, adjustment rod has now been moved 1 turn towards the master cylinder. Put locking nut back on and the clutch disengages a little sooner now (not so much off the floor). I will see how it holds out.

Shifting is improved but the adjustment rod does not have any much more give on it from now so this is as much adjustment as I can probably make. Trying to get the most out of this clutch/car for the time being.

Thanks Ghislain.

Yes; Clutch Pedal wear might not helping.

Glad to hear that it improved Clutch disengagement.

Ghislain.

For what it's worth, I had similar symptoms twice. Once was a bad master cylinder (slow leak), and the second was the seals on the slave.
If it's a leaking master cylinder, you should see the reservoir going down slowly over time.
My slave didn't leak but it would also not push the fork as far as it should. I found small improvement by adjusting the rod but that only lasted for about a week before it was back again.

Update - my reservoir was low which I am sure contributed to most of my shifting pains. It was below the MIN mark. Seems to have been that way for a bit because there was dried up residue on the filler neck. Topped it up and will keep an eye on it.

Stupid thing on my part is that the reservoir looked to be topped up at a glance. Then I come to find out it was just an illusion of caked on crap that dried up. LOL. When in doubt, open the filler cap.

Some air might of worked it's way into the Clutch Line. Give it a bled of you can just to make sure.

Ghislain.
