Monday May 3rd 2010 - Worst day of my life to date.....

I was coming back from Golfing in St.Kitts, on the 406 to QEW ramp and my ass end kicked out (it just finished raining and i was going the same speed as traffic infront of me) I counter steered...front end went into the gravel then sucked me into the ditch, my car rolled and caught on fire instantly on my left side, i had to jump out the passenger side. Luckily my wallet fell on my passenger side after the roll, however, i lost my NEW golf clubs i bought the day before, cell phone i got 3 weeks ago, security uniform/papers, bar shirts, hat, etc (normal things you would have in your car).

I cant begin to explain how heart wrenching it was to watch my car slowly burn to NOTHINGNESS in the ditch as mass people are trying to talk to me to make sure im ok, im just watching my car dieeee :'( I think it fishtailed bc of my back left tire lacking tread... You couldnt even tell what colour the car was after, it was literally just METAL FRAME....SO now im driving my brothers winter beater (94 Tercel) DID i mention i had basic coverage so im pretty much SOL for getting any $$$ and not to mention...i got charged with Careless and for being an unlicenced driver (expired on Saturday - 2 days!). The Cop told me to fight the careless and it will get knocked down...but im fighting both!! ($850 in fines)...fml.....

Sorry to hear about your car, but certainly glad that you're okay!

I can't begin to imagine how I would feel if the same happened to me. Chin up buddy, and good luck in court.

Man, this is a SAD story, but thankfully not tragic like some other recent DSM car crash stories that have been discussed on this forum.

Best of luck man, hopefully you beat the tickets, and some gem of a used DSM falls into your lap for a good deal sometime in the near future.

I may sound like a prick here but why would you be driving on a bald tire?

For your next DSM make sure your tires are good and carry the fire extinguisher instead of your spare tire. This is what I am going to do now after I read your post. I am recommending it to everyone.

Make sure you get a 5lb instead of the little things people tend to put in their cars.

I used to have a small one then tried to put out a guys engine fire on the side of the road, didn't do the job. If I had a 5lb it would've been enough.

I carry a 5lb in mine.

Glad you're in one piece, cars are replacable...it's sad but you can always get another one.

Unreal.
Good thing you're okay and got out safely. Everything else is replaceable though I'm sure it sucked royally to lose it all.

Wow that's crazy. So sorry to hear about your car. The good thing is that you are OK. Cars can be replaced, lives can't.
I myself also have a 5lb fire extinguisher in my trunk, it's always a good to have.

Best of luck on your future DSM!

Shitty! frown
Can't you claim it on fire policy? Or does that not apply when it's on fire from a crash..

Well now I think I might have to mount the five pounder in the passenger compartment instead of the trunk. How useless it would be if the car is upside down!

There is a HWY 406 & QEW at St. Catherines.

Fire policy is different from liability which pays for the other person's car.
Comprehensive (theft & fire) insurance, it's like $15 a year and you'd be crazy not to have it.

Cops aren't they great feeling that the only consolation to the inconvenience of leaving Tim's is to write a bunch of tickets.
Glad you're ok.

^^ Josh, on the note of that topic: he's right. I've learned over time that it's useless to get frustrated with people's ignorance towards police. It used to bother me, but I've adopted a belief that as long as I AM a good cop, I don't give two sh!ts about what they say.

I would like to think that I am a nice person AND a good cop. I don't think you'll meet anyone (so far) that will say otherwise.

Yes, Cops do become jaded after many years (I work with many retired police officers). They deal with the same scum day after day. I see them in the courts day in day out (i work in a court house) and the sameee people always come through and continue to break the law. JUST like you people meet one (or a few) asshole cops, they deal with assholes every shift!! So cut the some slack, they have a hard job whether you choose to believe they do f*** all, they can make their months salary in ONE call!

Reason I asked, is because the insurance company brought mine to "their own" shop in St Catherins.

The shop got "broken into" and my windows were smashed, convertible top was damaged, and drivers seat was torn. The "thieves" didn't take anything though. My SAFC/Gauges/CD Deck was still there. The shop owner offered to buy my car as it sat, under the table which made me believe that he was the one who did the damage.

So you never know what kind of scam the shop is trying to pull when a car comes in that rough of shape. Especially if parts are salvageable, they could turn around and say nope, parts A, B, and C were damaged so we tossed them.

Not trying to hyjack your thread, lol. But I had the worst experience with this kinda stuff.

MOST of us deal with scum every day. They CHOSE that profession, so don't ask me to cut them slack. Also, MOST of us don't get away with treating EVERYONE like scum.
Not only that, but when the bastards lie under oath in court, they are not DEALING with scum..they ARE scum...

Any this is where it pays to not take these things to heart. Because I KNOW I don't lie under oath, I KNOW I'm not scum, and I KNOW that everyone has the right to their own opinions. So I'll let them say what they want to say, and I'll continue to stand up for what I believe in.

Now, back on topic:

I would definitely be hunting the car down man... like Mike said, a lot of the time, there are some seriously shady dealings going on that you don't know about!
