HKS 272 cams
DNP exhaust mani
FP 3065

Jay racing ALT relocation kit for a saturn alt.

This is the first engine I have rebuilt, so after reading Mikes build thread and snapping a couple main studs I was Shi**ing mysef when I had to go through the same steps lol

I took my time and checked out all the clearances with plastigauge and thankfully everything checked out perfectly.

I also made my own valve spring compressor after fighting with the one I borrowed from a local garage, te new one worked incredibly well, if anyone is interested I can get pics of it.

Thanks,
Very good actually, we loaded the car up and then went to pay for it, I didn't bring cash so he actually let me drive off with all the parts and let me go find an RBC. pretty trustworthy I think.

I like your subject line: "My Slow Laser build". I thought, what, a guy's going to the trouble to build a Laser that's slow? Aren't they that way already? grin Kidding. Anyway . . . Looks beauty.

" Eclipses and talons are cool, but lasers are just poser cars."

thanks for the positive feed back guys.

Don't listen to them, my first DSM was a Laser (see sig).

People used to ask me what I drove, and I'd reply "a Laser" and they'd look all confused and ask me what that was so I just put my hand into a gun sign and go "pew pew".

They'd laugh, until they get in my passenger seat. Every one of my friends who's laughed and sat in my car knew what a Laser was, to this day.

Nice build though, if only my Talon wasn't my only car and DD...I'm so green with envy right now...

Just got the timing side all locked down tonight, I noticed alot of side to side play on the tensioner arm bracket, it was moving in and out about 1/8th".

Machined up a new brass bushing for it and got everything in place.

Fluidampr crank pulley was planned for this but I just got laid off so thats on a back burner now.

Powdercoated motor mount wich I cut and welded a cap onto since im ditching power steering.

no sh!t, considering you need a helicopter to get to the top of that mountain. not to mention the 18 pct grade hills there.

been held up a bit on this build lately, but I got the exhaust all welded up.
3" stainless , V band off turbo, High flow cat, Vibrant flat black 3" in /dual 3" outlets/
[Linked Image]

Also dropped the engine in, hooked a few things up but it seems theres a laundry list of small items holding me up.

How did you find the first time rebuilding an engine? Thinking about giving it a shot myself.

It was intimidating. Take it one step at a time, make sure you clean your block out very well after machining, I was suprised at how much materials I got out when I thought it was already clean. Plastigauge everything, and make sure to torque in the correct sequence.

I'm glad I did it all on my own now, I understand the engine alot more now.

Well I've decided to finally get back at this long long overdue project. car has been on a trailer for a few years now just as I left it .
I feel like I need to completely re learn dsms again.

I assume Ziggy is still our go to parts slinger ?

is ECM link still the best option for engine management or has something beter emerged in my time away ?

RTM is but not Ziggy. Ziggy still on the board with us.
The big news you missed is the birth of Dynotune Racing (By Reza). You should defiantly check it out.

Evo 8 Ecu into 2g/1g using tephra mod....98-99 ecu using ecu flash and evoscan.... There are a couple. Both these are quicker responding/newer ecus as well.

Even better than both would be Haltech
