Here is part #2 of my idle surge story,
#1 was cleaning the ISC, which helped but didnt fix it completely, then it gradually got worse and worse, until it was revving up to 2500 RPM when I was stopped at a light.
It also kept changing, sometimes 700, sometimes 1500, sometimes 2500, I was going nuts,
So luckily I had a FIAV sitting around, and some new caps for my ECU,
swapped the FIAV, put in new caps, idles like new and purrs like a kitten..

before I was getting black smoke, rough idle, misfiring.. etc.

The old caps were not leaking or anything, but I think its a good idea to replace caps at least once a year smile

Took out the 3 screws, took it apart, sprayed brake cleaner around the shaft and moved it back and forth until it was free:)
Works perfectly now. dont spray anythingon the magnet/coil though.

Chris-

I took my ISC apart to check for movement, and the shaft moved very little, but it seemed as though it wasn't meant to move all that much- is there a great deal of play on the movement of that?

Also, the inside was really clean (spotless), but the outside was blackened on the business end.

How was yours? Was it black and crudded up on the inside too?

no its clean inside, and the spring makes it look like it isnt meant to move much but it moves quite a bit when you see it in action,
the black stuff around the shaft is the one you wanna get rid of, it prevents it from moving back and forth freely.. mine was actually making a clicking noise before I cleaned it because it couldnt move.
if you wanna see it move, just hook it up, and look through the windshied at it while you turn the key to ON.. I was surprised to see it move so much when that spring is so hard to compress. Power of magnets..

So I guess that means that after I cleaned my ISC last night and freed up the plunger, and it vibrated when i turned the car to 'ACC', it's pooched or is it supposed to vibrate for about a second?

I tried driving it and it seemed to be a little bit improved, but not a heck of a lot.

I remember reading somewhere that when the motor first gets power it actuates a few times. So that would be normal.

Rob,

I guess it all depends on our interpretations of 'clicking' and 'actuating'. Sounds like (from what Chris said) it should be actually 'moving' as opposed to vibrating? I mean, it's one thing to actually have power suppied to the motor, but for it to work . . .

Am I right? Chris?

It's coming back to me now...
What I remember reading was that you can pull the ISC, plug it back in to the wiring harness, and turn the key to ON (not START!). At that point, the plunger should move in and out. IIRC that is one of the test to see if the ICS is functioning.

the clicking I had was because the ISC couldnt move.. I also pulled it out and looked at it while putting the key to ON, and it was just twiching..
after cleaning it, it stated moving a LOT more.

My Idle surge is gone now, as long as I don't floor it.. as soon as I floor it my idle jumps to 2500 and then later on surges etc. Really sucks, I mean whats the point of turbo if you can t use it!
