Yeah its such a bike of character, I have owned many bikes in my lifetime but this one is one that I keep just cause its got such a personality and its just not like most of the other bikes built today. I would go for a Duc but its not worth the extra for the little that I drive now

I owned my Ducati for about a year, honestly I would just buy another R1 now, the Japanese bikes do everything better they just don't have the Italian name.

Yeah I know what the Jap bikes can offer its just they still lack that certain something of a twin offers. My days of ripping around well above posted speed limits are long over so the twin offers real world power.

It's dry, but definitely not above zero, more like -30 a couple days ago.

As soon as warm weather comes I'll be starting an AWD swap. Donor car is under about a foot of snow right now.

In Quebec, I don't think he has to worry about the salt - aren't they still using dirt?
As for NS, wouldn't you have to get rid of the ocean?
I miss mine too! frown

In NS we just have our yearly Rust Check or undercoating to get them from having cancer. Mines a great example of how clean they can be as this car was purly a winter driving car but undercoated from day one and still under warrenty for it smile

More like stones out of a farmers field. We also are not allowed to run all season tires here, so I would need a set of snow tires for it.

I really shouldn't take the car on the roads until mid April when they have been swept, but I can't help it and my front bumper has paid the price, it is full of stone chips, it looks awful.

I was going to call it a panda too lol Looks great!

Reza, why 215 width? It seems a bit narrow.. Fitment issue?

I've always only used a 215 tire on the street, never really found the need to add unsprung weight. All my best 1/4 mile track times on street rims/tires were done on a 215/45/17 tire too, it has the best characteristics IMO wink I would go 225 but it would have to be a very lightweight tire, maybe Kumho MX's next time. Also since Kevin K is running an HTA86 and 10:1 compression now, I got to do these little things to try my best to keep ahead of him on the streets cool Adding more tire will only slow the car down up top lol

Actually fitment is good with the +35 offset. I could run a 245 tire with no rubbing issues at all, which some guys are already doing with the same rims on 1g AWD's.

Pardon my curiosity, but if the contact patch isn't as wide as the rim, then why even have a wider rim? Doesn't that also just add more weight?

Not with rpf1's wink . My previous white rims were 17x7 approx 20lbs each. These ones are 17x8 and only 15.6lbs each. Looks more aggressive and weighs about 4-5 lbs less per corner. It could only be better. This is actually a lightweight racing rim. Also slight stretch of a 215 tire on a 8" rim will make steering response a little better, though I didn't care much about that aspect.

Car was painted a long time ago, but its not the factory white. Its more like a very white or tide white colour.

Interesting info, do you not have traction issues in lower gears at your power level? What would a 235 tire add in weight vs a 215, maybe 1lb per corner? I would have though the advantage in traction would outweight the minimal additional weight, that is, if your having traction issues with the 215's.

Yes I can break them loose in 2nd, but the car still moves though. Its fun going sideways with the power I make. I never launch the car on the street anyways, its always 2nd onwards. The difference b/w a 215 and 225 is usually 1 to 4 lbs depending on brand of tire, sometimes even similar. No way I'm running a 235 or 245 tire especially with a 40 series sidewall. Reminds me of a conversation I was having Shandon on the ecmlink forums yesterday. I believe he's on this board too, drives a low 11 sec 1g. He mentioned to me how its been nothing but a boat load of broken parts and axles every since he switched to a 235 or 245 (can't remember) tire from a smaller profile, and has not even had a personal best on them either. Having a tire that gives out matters too. We have AWD, even with a 215 tire you have more traction than most RWD car on the street with wide tires.

You have to remember I have MT slicks mounted on 15" rotas for the track. Getting the biggest tire on the street was not at the top of my list, which might be for others. Weight was my # 1 concern. I also have something now that 99.9% of DSMers don't use, which is a cusco 4 spider LSD center differential smile
Big tires aren't everything, I've been that route before and prefer a 215/45 or max 225/45 tire.

It will be interesting to see the spool on Kevins 10:1 car compared to my 2.3L with the same turbo.

Ya, I remember you still have the seperate set of "real" tires for the track wink Up to 4 lbs heavier from just going from a 215 to a 235 wide? Are we talking comparison between same brand/model or between different brands/models? I can see one tire manufacturers 235 being 4 lbs heavier then anther brands 215 but if its the same brand & model I can't see them actually weighing that much more, for just abit more width. What are the tires made from, lead grin Besides, I thought you were making enought power that rotational weight no longer matters tongue

Why the extra breakage with the wider tire (were still talking equal overall tire height between the two)? Just the fact of having the extra grip?

My ssr 18x8 with 235 tire are 46lb, by comparison the 98 car has 17x8 with 225 tire and they are 43lb. Keep in mind that it also depends where the weight is on the rim, some rims have thick spokes and thin outside others have thin spokes and thick outside. I think its better to have the heavier part of the rim closer to the hub. Also the 215/45 tire will give you better acceleration being smaller OD the stock. I went with 235/40/18 to keep my OD the same as OEM. When I swapped the 225/45 tire with 17s on my white car I noticed the car a little more responsive due to less weight (3lb) and lower OD. Also keep in mind that usually the higher the speed rating the heavier(or stiffer sidewall) the tire in the same size.
