I think its better to have the heavier part of the rim closer to the hub. Also the 215/45 tire will give you better acceleration being smaller OD the stock. I went with 235/40/18 to keep my OD the same as OEM. When I swapped the 225/45 tire with 17s on my white car I noticed the car a little more responsive due to less weight (3lb) and lower OD. Also keep in mind that usually the higher the speed rating the heavier(or stiffer sidewall) the tire in the same size.

My rim/tire combo defently aren't light weight either, 18x8's w/235's as well. Don't think I've weighed them assembled but I wouldn't be shocked if they weigh 50lbs a corner. I know the benefits of a lighter setup but I haven't been able to convinve myself the performance benefits are worth the look of going to a 17" rim, with their larger sidewall & rather large looking 2g wheel wells. I'm sure a lighter 18" could be found vs what I'm currently running (believe they weighed in at 25lbs ea) but I don't like the look of most lightweight wheels. Not that they all look bad, just seems the styles I prefer are heavy crazy

The car at the moment is stock besides little things like intake and exhaust, we just finished doing the regular maintenance work and cutting out all the rust and replacing it with fresh sheet metal. Next will be fresh paint and hopefully in the near future some mods!!!
Hope you all enjoy!!

Hey Daren, you should be able to get a rim thats generally a pound an inch as a light weight wheel.
My last autocross car I used Konig Heliums they were 11 lbs for a 15 inch rim and let me just confirm to you the car was spin happy. When it was with its regular 17 ADR M-Sports it couldnt just break lose in anything other than 1st and then a chirp late in 2nd but with the Konigs and much stickier rubber I would be having issues with traction in 2nd and getting chirps and slides in 3rd.
That being said its always expensive but if you keep an eye out on NASIOC.com there are loads of high quality wheels at decent prices that will fit our cars

Hey Nik,
You are on the right way! It is not a good idea to pain parts while they still on the car. The clutch fluid reservoir does not look good in your pic spy

Daren, there is a weight difference across different brands and the same brand with different sizes even if it is minor. Some may be the exact same and some won't, depends on the tire brand. Then again I'm never going to a 235 tire, I only compare a 215 and 225 tire. Yes 1 lb matters to me smile . Softness and thickness of the sidewall matters to me too. Don't think I'll ever run a 235 on a 1g AWD smile

I've been driving around on 215/45/17 for a long time in 1g DSM's, I don't just go with what works and looks good on paper wink
11.00@136 (FP3065) and 11.6@120 (16g) on almost bald 215/45/17's street tires, with not much failure compared to how many passes I have done at the track. If someone else has a comparable car with bigger tires, chime in.

I couldn't imagine running 18" 50 lbs weights at the end of each one of my axles just because they look good. Making all that power just to have it robbed by 50lbs slugs is a good way to slow your car down. That's just asking for something to break when your making power, probably similar to Shandon's situation. He mentioned to me the weight of his 245/45 rim/tire combo is 47 lbs. Too heavy.

Hey might even be why your running 12's on a FP3052 when you should be in the high 11's at low boost tongue

Or it could be that clipping of an 11 second run isn't a priority for me, if it was I would have changed out my slipping/dragging clutch & been back to the track a long time ago bird

I ran a 12.3 the second pass I made with the car being awd, on 24psi (becuase of the 91 I was forced to run). I have only made about 6 more runs since that, some with up to 28psi (with proper 94 this time). But with a slipping & dragging clutch still managed the same 12.3, also doesn't help when you miss 4th a couple times crazy

We'll see 11's on the 3052 eventually, when I get around to it, even with the heavy 50lb weights on each corner rotflmao

I have no desire to push my car to the limits, breaking things each time you go out isn't what I consider a "fun day".

TRE stage 3 from a couple years back (think he's changed his numbers). It was his top of the line at the time, basically a complete 1-5 evoIII gearset, 4 spider with a TRE LSD insert. Rear diff is stock LSD.

Reza the car looks great, but that rear end is looking real 4x4. I do love the thicker sidewall on dsms. I always have, make it look like the car means business smile

happened to have the summers out cleaning the rims so I thought I would post up a pic with the rear sitting up next to its home.
They came with the purchase of the car along with the factory rims and a set of 14's which are now gone

Outstandingly clean drool The true love between MAN and DSM. Some engine components still remain in their original factory colour such as power steering lines. LOL you are missing bolts for the bumper bracket between headlights. wink

Ooh, nothing, I just had them tucked underheath when I was working in front of it. The doorway is at the front of the car, right between where this one sits and the other spot, so I leave my shoes out, but I didn't want to step on them all the time crossing smile

I really like that 2gb combo Deep.

I'm actually going to be doing that combo myself as the 2ga front bumper always reminds me of a retarded smile..

^^ I was debating shaving it and leaving it wingless before paint, but I came to the conclusion I only like it on a Laser. The 1Gb Talon ass is bubbly is you look from a side profile, and the wing is perfectly designed to sharpen it. The shell didn't come with a wing, I have one now but it's black. When spring rolls around I am going to mix the remaining paint/clear I have, and shoot the wing and fuel door, before wet sanding and polishing the whole car. I might shave the antenna hole too, since 1) I don't even have an antenna, and 2) Never listen to radio.

Get an Ipod deck and call it a day. Alpine makes the best ones i think.

I know the new series Kenwood decks have them too. I have one in my daily driver and it blows the Alpine in my Talon out of the water. It also has an SD card slot, as well as a front aux port, so you could play music a few different ways, as well as a normal CD.
