I think the total U-haul bill for the weekend was just under $300. That was for Thursday night pickup to Monday night drop off, 4 days. Wasn't too bad I thought for the insurance of getting home in a timely manner if either of us broke. It towed great as well around 120km/hr and not a huge hit in mileage.

I'm definitely in next year. Really hoping to see a bigger Canadian turnout too. Maybe I'll even tighten my knock sensor down this time.

Good to see this much excitement this early. Leaves lot's of time to plan so we're not pulling anyone's transmission apart at 11pm the night before.

Planning on attending as it stands so funds shouldnt be an issue. I will also have another CAA member ship for 200km if anyone else from here is going.

How much is it roughly for the weekend?

I've been wanting to go for the last 2 or 3 years that I haven't gone. Haven't had a dsm to take so I didn't want to go, did it once like that didn't feel authentic enough. The last year I've done nothing to my car, I am just too busy. Things aren't as busy now (no weddings to be in or other family crap to deal with). I've just got to decide whether I am just focused on getting my car running or to really clean it up. I think I just want to get it running and get a summer with a trip and a few runs down the 1320 with er.

I must say I had a blast when I went down with Ryan, Eric, Ghis, Scott, Pete and meeting everyone else down there and driving back with PPG, Greer, Kinnaird group. That was 07 I think.

I would only be interested in the drive down, I don't think I'd be taking my car on the track I am too much of an amateur there.

With any luck I will be ready to rock! Oh and I didn't mind camping on the lawn of that motel we stayed in, they let us stay the 2 other nights for $20, the first night there was 6 of us in a motel room. They let the campers use the pool shower, we had a bonfire too and got well lubricated from what I recall.

Oh and I have CAA plus and so does the gf so thats another 400k of towing. You could also buy another CAA plus membership just make up a person and add them as associate its like 74$. Actually in all the time I have had CAA I've only used it for myself once all other times I usually end up helping a friend get a tow or something.

You don't HAVE to drive down in a DSM. I think we only did that one year. We go just to watch and to have a great time....

Depends also where and how long you stay. We found a nice motel last year with indoor pool and hot tub, paid about $250. or so for the room for 3 nights. I didn't want to drive back Sunday night. At that rate, it would be closer to $500. or more with gas and meals.

I've had a DSM for 3 years, and been to the shoot out for the last 2 years. It's a great time. If there is any way to be there you should. I've had a chance to meet some great people, had great conversations with well known people in the community. If you can go at all I would suggest you go. It's a great experience. Staying over the Sunday night is some thing to think about. I did the first year. Then drove home this year. I would opt to stay over if you can. It's a long day on Sunday.

The shootout is defenatly a great event to go and watch. Ive been going for the past 3 years and it is always well worth the trip. This year we decieded to head back to canada on the sunday night.I would not highly recommend this. Once i got to the other side of the border i was almost falling asleep behind the wheel LOL. I would stay the extra day and leave the monday morning.

It's only once a year, so make a vacation of it. Take the extra day off, stay an extra night, and really ENJOY the ENTIRE trip, instead of rushing home dead tired for the sake of a few bucks.....

Attendance of this club has been dwindeling over the last few years. I can understand that we all have a busy life but with a little planing things can happend.

My plea is to "invite" as many people as possible so we can have fun and participate in a greath event.

Few years ago one of the Newfoundland memebre came up. Now he did bring his car on a Trailor which was defenately a smart move. For us we live an avreage of 6 to 8 hours away and come as a group. Resources are plentifull and support from other member is excellent.

Mark down your calender guys.

Haha, don't forget the Pit Crew Captain!

Hopefully I'll be able to make it out next year and who knows, maybe I'll have my own DSM or be rocking the first 4G63-powered Mazda 3. It's likely that I'll have finals when the shootout is going on though so I can't say until much closer to the event.

It was definitely a fun event and if there's one thing I learned it's to make sure your knock sensor is tight, right Jamie? (All that work changing the coilpack for nothing - I bet that bolt is still stuck down there!)

I had a blast last time I was there, adam, I think it was wayyy back in 06? lol. Anyway, I'm planning to attend this year, and even race this time! Last time I didnt run because I had an ESi FWD, and really, there was no point to embarrass myself tongue

I think I ended up spending around $400 and stayed 2 nights.

The plan this year is to go but we all know what happens when we make plans. We will probably be towing my car down, and if we don't own a truck by then I'll be driving down.

Either way, we'd like to go even if I don't drive my car down, I'll bring the video camera. wink

That's the spirit!!

I mean....really...for guys who consider themselves "DSMers", and for who your car is such an important part of your life.....how you can you justify NOT going to the shootout....
You see cars there with "shootout or bust" on them. Obviously some of those people weren't even sure they were going to make it, but they TRIED AT LEAST! If you cant save up a couple hundred bucks in a year, you shouldn't be driving a DSM smile
The first year I went we had a TERRIFIC turnout from Ontario, but not since. It really SHOULD be a requirement to call yourself a DSMer....you should need to have attended a shootout at least every other year or something like that, LOL.

It REALLY is a good time. I regret not being able to make it out the past few years (Dave has a habit of scheduling the S.O. on my daughter's B-day).

I'm planning on going again this year though.

I've done both racing, and spectating. I'm not sure which I prefer. Getting a "payout" IS nice, but so is just enjoying the sights, and not worrying about breaking...

Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

I wouldn't mind going to this shootout, haven't met any of you yet but I have access to a 4 door dodge diesel and a 2 car trailer if anyone would need a tow home, if you can put up with an 18 year old for the length of the drive that is.

Where is it located and how longs the drive? If im running by then it should like fun. Get some Canadian representation. Will there be a local event as well?

As it usually is with me, depends on whether I get the funds together to fix my car.

If she's up and running, I'll be there!

Shouldn't be a problem booking the days off work.

Girlfriend wouldn't mind either, but she's more familiar with the West Coast California "Fast and Furious" style parties. lol

Most of the cars in the first Fast and Furious movie were from the San Diego area; her friends cars.

Driving down and hanging out sounds like fun too, but driving down in a 2000 four door sh!t green Civic with manual windows and no A/C does not.
