I agree with you there. I have a cherry bomb exhaust and when i got pulled over there was a Transport truck beside me with a blown muffler and a harley behind me. I find it hard to believe he heard me at all. I tried to fight it in court stating that the db was below and what the stats on a truck and harley etc were but the judge was a douche. She said since it was not a "dealer" muffler it was illegal. WTF?? I have never heard of such a rule! Then how do any other companies stay in business. It all depends on the cop and how they feel that day. I paid my fine and moved on I think i have had 3 in the last 2 years.

I use to keep a copy of the law in the car with me, cops liked to tell me its illegal because its not OEM, its illegal because its straight through, it won't pass emissions, blah blah. They usually changed their tune when I politely told them I have a copy of section 75A (think thats the right one, its been awhile) in the car with me & if they'd like to go over the details with me to see what part of the law my muffler doesn't meet?

There is nothing in that section that states the muffler has to be OEM, it doesn't even have a specific limit. It states you must have a muffler, it must prevent excessive noise & can't be modified (ie gutted, etc). A dB test was always enough to get the charge dropped for me.

Frederic, I'm using a universal Vibrant, 3" in dual 2.5" out. Then I have a pair of Vibrant slanted, 2.5" tips welded on. The tip shape & size is almost identical to the stockers, I even had them welded stagered to follow the body lines, just like stock. The muffler comes polished, I bead blasted it to give it a factory OEM colour. I've had other DSM owners think my muffler was stock, it is that good.

I will be contesting the ticket, based on the way the QC cops judge that it is too loud. He pulled me over, was able to put a measuring tape in more than 30", he said this made it illegal. So I asked what about SRT4's, and Mazda Speeds, and yup, how about your crown vic patrol car with mufflers mid stream, hell you could put the tape in about 6 feet. He said it didn't matter. Ok, fine, be that way. Here is a good resource for anyone who wants to fight a muffler ticket.

My Eclipse was originally white until the tool that owned it before me painted it copper. I was so pissed when I stripped the interior and found out the real color. Urgh!!!!!

Yes sir! I am still pissed. Don't get me wrong, the copper looks sweet on the car but the white would've been icing on the cake.

I live in a small town east of Ottawa and the only other DMS I notice is another white 2g. Quite a few white DMS in the Ottawa area actually.

yan - hell yeah! I was taking a look at your car and was trying to figure out how you get away without having a front plate but live in Ontario..? I got nailed for that a couple years ago, so damn annoying.

I've been lucky so far. I've passed cops several times and quite a few of them were staring at me. They might have had something better to do than stop me for missing front plate. Or they just thought I was from Quebec

I need to fab some kind of bracket to get it mounted away from the FMIC, and without drilling holes in the front of the bumper

The stock OEM license plate bracket works well if you turn it upside down and mount it underneath the bumper

I'm trying to avoid blocking the the FMIC as much as I can. Thinking I'll try mounting it Evo style.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. You mount below the bottom of the fog light opening (under the bumper)

Red light cameras only get the rear plate..

I think the law is that it must be attached to the front of the vehicle and visible. Like most things, the definition of "visible" is probably a matter of the cop's imagination.
