If its the same issue, I've found the engine likes to roll/tilt back when the tranny is off & the front of the car jacked. On a 2g, this leaves not enough room between the tranny & the subframe. What I now do is wedge a block of wood between the engine & the subframe, this prevents the engine from rolling & spaces it abit further from the subframe. With this done, I put the tranny on a floor jack & jack it straight up & slide it into place. Its an easy one person job with this method.

I used a jack on the oil pan to control the tilt of the engine, I thought it was slightly easier with the engine tilted down a bit, it's easier with the engine level?

I think that's what the previous owner of my car did or something.

I have a dent in my oil pan. Hope it doesn't cause problems.

You're supposed to use a block of wood to prevent poking through with the jack. Even then, the motor doesn't weigh that much, you'd probably need to start lifting the car with it to push it in.

It's more likely they bottomed out on the road..

On the bright side, you are definitely not alone. Mine is dented and I'm sure it would be difficult to find a nice clean straight oil pan except from the dealer or jobber, or of course the Zig man wink

As long as it's not bent too much, but if it was bent too much you would have known already cause your engine would have been oiled starved and overheated and potentially seeze.

That's right, it'd have to be dented far enough to interfere with the oil pick-up. There is some room, plus the pick-up is this wide strainer thing and you'd have to mangle the tube to obstruct it.

Neglected to mention that I used a block of wood to disperse the weight.

Oh yeah and I forgot to consider, the wood is far more important on a 2G when working on the trans. since there is only one motor mount attached compared to 1G that has 3 on the motor.

Yeah on the 1G it's nice. No need to support the engine with a jack or anything smile

A rarity I've never seen in a DSM.

Rolling to Toronto and back today in a 91 AWD Automatic with a soon-to-be member, and a local to me, I notice this:

[Linked Image]

Sorry for the cell phone pic, but has anyone ever seen this before?
I had a 91 FWD Auto and didn't have this in my car.
Oh, by the way, this car is uber clean, and stock right to the airbox.

Looks like he has a bad A/t temp sensor or the tranny is over heating. My buddy had one. I think they ran out of room on the dash so they added the 3 extra lights there till the 1gb came out

The 1990 Talons only came stick. The 91 were the first to offer an auto could be an early production 91 and they figured it would be cheaper to just make that dome console then to retool a new gauge assembly. Check his build date.

If that's the original paint, that's beautiful. Well, I suppose even if it isn't original it's beauty. Original = special I guess.
