Hey Guys I'm dying to get another DSM and I came across this one. I'm going to see it on Saturday, but want to ask you guys if there's anything that sticks out which you notice that I may have missed. 99 Eclipse GST 130,000 miles. He's not sure if it's the original motor in there. Red 5speed Certified/E-tested 17" rims MBC B&G Springs with Tokiko Illuminas Turbo Timer He told me that there is a noise coming from the clutch when ever you press the pedal - Throwout bearing? Also, I see some oil leakage around the valve cover, but he said it's just from the gasket. It does have higher mileage, so he's flexible on the price. I wont post what he's asking... but I want to know your guys opinion and what would you pay for it? Or should I keep my eyes open for something else. Link to Photos

Hey Guys
...
He told me that there is a noise coming from the clutch when ever you press the pedal - Throwout bearing? Also, I see some oil leakage around the valve cover, but he said it's just from the gasket.
A 13 year old car is like a 20+ year old house. There will be hidden surprises everywhere, so if it has visible surprises, get out before you're fighting both. Let's say you've got a throwout bearing and a gasket. So you're in for a tranny-dropping job and a gasket replacement, before you notice any other thing about the car. Even at that, on a 13-year old car that needs a ton of maintenance (as all 13-year old cars do, there's no way to have an old car that doesn't take a lot of care), he better be pretty much giving it to you for a grand. Then, add on that it's not a AWD turbo engine, knock that price to $500. Because everyone can get a cheap non-Turbo Eclipse. I know it says 99, and that mattered in 2004 when it was 5 years old, not 6 (vs 98s). But now it's 13, not 14, which is like comparing 1 year difference in ages of people in retirement homes. So, if it's 500, go for it If it's 2k, consider a Tsi. If it's 4k, import from the USA. Anything other than 500-1000, tell him to get the work done and then you'll come look at it. You don't need to inherit someone else's problems. (All this may be moot, since you were going to see it Sat, and this is Monday).
The moment a turbo spools, all your dreams are made possible.

I gotta ask though Mike, another GST? Why not go GSX/TSi AWD? Because since Oct, I haven't seen a decent 2gb AWD show up for sale. Well, there's this one, but I'll have to go out and buy the few mods, and get them installed. It's also in Cobourg, which is a bit of a drive http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Eagle/Talon/COBOURG/Ontario/19_5380410_/I've just noticed that the AWD 2gb is so hard to find now. I want something for this Summer. By any chance is that car located in Waterloo? I've seen a red 2G Eclipse (not sure what trim) that looks just like that driving around Loo on a number of occasions. Nope, it's in Ingersoll. Maybe he drives out there though Anything other than 500-1000, tell him to get the work done and then you'll come look at it. You don't need to inherit someone else's problems. Thanks for the good advice. Unfortunately he isn't selling it for a grand. The way he sounded on the phone is that if he realizes the car needs a/b/c fixed, he'll consider that with the offer I give him. He said that he's willing to bring it by a shop for the certification, so hopefully if there are any other surprise issue's... they show up then. I defiantly don't want another headache DSM. On a side note, if someone has Saturday open and wants to come with me... I'll pay you for your time/gas. Let me know

Or, why not just get an EVO 8 or 9? Haha, Mike, I think this is the best one that's been posted in this thread (no offense to Tim's friend). 1. Price isn't too bad, I'm sure there is room for negotiation, and cash in someone's face really speaks volumes. 2. It's a 2gb talon! Even if you want to swap to eclipse bumpers, 2gb talon stuff is a rare find. 3. Strut towers look clean, and the mileage is great. 4. Tastefully modified, no doesn't appear to be hacked up. So what if it's a bit of a drive, it might be worth it. There's quite a few members on here that live in that area that might be able to go have a look at it for you. A couple years ago, Ryan L was nice enough to check out a car for me out in North Bay.

That car is super clean, I definitely like the interior too, very tasteful. 9 grand is definitely steep, though

if there's an oil leak around the VC, check the cam seals on the timing side, and inspect the belt. Do you know when it was last changed?

For the only important thing is rust. Everything else will eventually need to be fixed/replaced anyway, might as well not brake off every bolt on the way. Personally, I'd only buy a car from the US, below the snow/salt belt.
And by rust I don't mean rust you can see on the body panels I mean rust on the undercarriage.
BOOST...Boo-Yah

That's what I want! There's two in Quebec lol http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-Eagle-talon-tsi-awd-W0QQAdIdZ387181601Seller wrote: I just come to make change the engine for a 4g63t 7bolts with 70 000 km cause I broke a connecting rod on the older. I check the check engine with my obd2 and the code was for the exhaust because I dont have catback, only a resonator and a hi performance muffler , the car make a good sound but not to hard for the police. The transmission was be completly rebuilt by the older owner all speed enter very good, the car run very smooth and good. Very funny to drive but a bit hard cause the ceramic clutch. If you have other question or you dont understand my english, recontact me. and http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-1998-Eagle-Talon-TSI-AWD-W0QQAdIdZ375938487Seller wrote: The car has been sitting for a year so it does not start anymore. The DSM Link settings are erased because the battery is dead however the battery in the car is 1 year old. The rotors have some surface rust. I do have a high performance cat on the exhaust I don't suspect there's any board members who live around here.

Typically, Quebec cars ='s stay the f away. I would agree with this statement but there are a handful of honest/responsible owners and lets face it, if you own a dsm, chances are you've had some "fun" with it..whether or not from Quebexico.
