I could get home after work and yank the whole motor and tranny out, take off all the manifolds and turbo and disassemble the whole motor and tranny before 12am It's not fun though unless you have some real dedication. I don't think I would do that now though, simply because I don't need to. Quickest I dropped the tranny was in 45 minutes. Clutch fork broke on the way home from work on a Friday afternoon long weekend and that was my only ride to go camping that evening. Started at 5pm in the evening and I was at Algonquin park in my DSM by 10:30pm that same night Gosh, I remember those days.....

Back in the day I drove the car to CT, bought the outer tie rod ends, changed them out in the parking lot and had the alignment done all same day after work.

I carry CAA. I'd rather tow the car home and work on it. I think I have only used CAA towing my broken car from the track. So do I. In fact, I called them the other night when my exhaust blew off in the middle of bum-frack nowhere with tools but no jack/blocks etc. at 11:30pm in the freezing cold + rain + hail. Wait was supposed to be well over an hour...ended up driving the car onto an embankment..threw on a couple layers of clothes + coveralls I always keep in the car...crawled under and went to work...wasn't too bad, except cleaning out all the mud/sand/grass packed into the 3" exhaust from driving onto the embankment. Finished it all in about 30 minutes or so of work...CAA was still 45+ mins away. Stuff that I can reasonably and safely fix without risking further damage to the car I will do. If it's something like a major oil leak/hg/etc...I would normally get a tow and call it a day. so do you guys just carrying a sh*t ton of spare parts LOL No...but a full socket set, a few wrench sets, a large variety of hand-tools and all the fluids the car could need. Generally no spare parts, though, except maybe electrical connectors (spades, crimps, etc.) that are small enough and light enough to keep a few of in the car.

I carry a small bag with 10, 12, 14mm sockets and wrenches, a flat screw driver, pair of vise grips and a flash light, can fix pretty much anything on a DSM with that kit. I wasn't sure if my alternator was going bad or not so I used to keep a spare in the trunk. For everything else, there is CAA My buddy, who owns a dsm also, is actually the local CAA tow truck driver.

so do you guys just carrying a sh*t ton of spare parts LOL Lets see here... I carry every tool required to tear that poor car down to nothing but scrap! The tool bag never leaves the trunk and doubles as my wrecker ammunition That along with at least 1qt of oil, spare ign coil and wires, coolant, grease, brake fluid, spare fuses and relays, jumpers, hurc straps, and 10L of gas. Usually filled with additional tools I need for work on the car during night shifts. Currently my electrical tool box, drill set, and a sh!t ton of audio wiring. But no spare tire. I blow a tire and I call CAA. I think my record time for an engine pull was just shy of 2 hours.

I think my record time for an engine pull was just shy of 2 hours. Good to know! I might be doing a swap this winter!

I have an oil heater and was planning on tossing a rad fan on it to circulate the air. Used it last year without a fan and it kept me warm, but always had to have it near me.

Interesting, is it a 250 or 300? I was looking for a MB C350 (manual), and ended up buying a Saab TurboX....
