Never asked tongue First gear will require a whole rebuild, but the 5th is a simple case of pulling the cover off and swapping out the gears with everything installed except for the passenger side wheel and the splash guard tongue I don't think you even have to drain the fluid! (might be wrong on the fluid part...)

You don't...but be prepared for it to all come rushing out when you take off that end cover. If tranny fluid showers are your thing, then definitely don't drain it smile rotate

Definately drain the gear oil before taking the cover off smile Also sometimes the 5th intermediate gear slides right off, sometimes a little prying gets it off, worst case scenario you will need a gear puller.

I just bought a Jacks 2.2 S-HD and they said the Evo III 5th was on backorder and they couldn't tell me when it would arrive so I opted for the standard gear because I want my new TRANNY!

So if this GB is a go I am in!

Still no word on final price? I'd be interested if it was like 200 flat shipped. Not that my car will be seeing 5th gear very much soon though. Lol

I have an evo3 1st and love it btw. You would have boost for a long time with a smaller turbo in 1st.

10 units would be 100us shipped up here. So the finally price for 10 units would be 215USD each.

MIND YOU, this would be to my address in Richmond hill which is pretty central I think, at least for Ontario.

Which isn't all that bad in price considering the savings on fuel later on.

So who's in? I want this thing to get going so we can have a for-sure order made and have these shipped as there will be some wait on them getting from the backorder process.

1. Johnny Larmond x2. (have 2 cars, can't pick favorites . )
2. Guillaume Berton x2 but I'll need help installing it
3. Alex Ak ????
4. Mike Eng ????
5. Terry S (All about the benjamins) ????
6. Bryan L (Depending on what the final price comes to, but probably) ????
7. Henri Masse (Depending on what the final price comes to, but probably) ????
8. Nick Gallo (Depending on what the final price comes to, but probably) ????
9. Jamie Valcamp ????
10.Pedro Suarez (Depending on what the final price comes to and when, but probably) ????
11.Mike Kuttz- lets see the $$ ????

Just erase the ???? so we know you're in for sure as the price is now a certainty.

I highly doubt there is any way to guarantee. RTM has to charge tax for their items opposed to getting them right from the us seller where there is a chance of not having to pay tax.
Correct me if I'm wrong here....

This might be a dumb question...has anyone got the part number and called a local dealer to see if they can get them? Back in the day we used to order JDM type R cams right from Honda canada.

Yeah that's a good call Stephen, I am going to call monday.

Part number is MR581018 and MR581020/mn107624
Don't quote me on the part numbers, the ASA diagrams are not easy to read, but I am pretty sure these are the ones. the first is output, the second is input (said it could be either)
I was looking at 2001 year, so if that's wrong let me know.

Just saying, because we did a group buy on shirts at work. And each order was an extra 7$. Would hate to see the extra costs on the gears if there are any duties... the penny pinchers here may loose their sh!t...

I just looked up those part numbers, and I can't BUY them for anywhere near that price, so you would pay a LOT more through a Canadian dealership. If your supplier is willing to ship by USPS, that is the way to go.

Let me know if you can find a better price. I doubt it seeing as they wanted to charge me $40 for a key.......
I'm all for cheaper tough! Lt me know what you can find. I can't imagine the package will weigh all that much.
I'll ask how they ship. FedEx or USPS and I'm all happy

Seeing as we're on this subject anyway, how much do evo 3 trannies go for?

EDIT: Nevermind. They're expensive. Better to get the guts from somewhere and do your own frankenstein I think.

Looks like I may have been wrong, here are the ones I found from searching.

input shaft gear - MD743980
intermediate shaft gear - MD743319

Some guy names twicks69 keep coming up, from what I read he has an account with Mitsubishi Japan, but usually keeps a good amount of stock. If he does order stuff it takes a while because it comes on a boat.

From what I am reading Jack's looks like the way to go, some of the prices I have seen in the past 3 years (from posts) are north of $300 for the 2 gears. Tashko on this board used to get the set for $370

Those numbers don't seem to come up as valid North American numbers, they PROBABLY have to come from Mitsu in Japan. I could POSSIBLY get them, but would take forever by boat as you mentioned.

Now imagine your doing a full rebuild with new gears, hubs/sliders, bearings and syncros. Yup, tranny parts and PROPER rebuilds are not cheap!

Unfortunately I just don't have the time to build trannies anymore so anyone wanting one will need to look elsewhere or ship to the US.

I'm sure the SERIOUS guys don't mind shipping to the 2-3 big DSM tranny builders in the US, so they still have that option if needed. You could also still find a trans from a JDM distributor for $400-$500 bucks if needed.

There are a few guys on this board who can build transmissions too, however they'll need to chime in for themselves smile

There probably IS no US part number, since the EVO 3 was not sold in the US.

I'm in at about $2500 for my Jack's rebuild with HD gearset, considering the parts and labor, I find it was a fair price. I am happy with the results though, it shifts like no other tranny I've even driven, well worth the cost to ship it to Jacks.

We should all be glad we're not looking at $6k+ for a stock GT-R rebuild!
