introducing my new daily runner the Mitsubishi Outlander 2012 GT with S-AWC. Picked it up few days ago from Mitsu dealer in San Diego. I had my eye on that machine for a long time so finally I found one equipped with features I always wanted.

Got it used with 16k miles on it. Has all features on board including factory GPS option, sunroof, leather, v6, HID, heated seats, roof racks, rearview camera, rockford sound with sub, and ton of more stuff. Traded my civic hybrid on Saturday, finished all paperwork and took her home same day.

One of the unique features for Outlander GT is legendary S-AWC (super all wheel control) also used in EVO 2007+). Drivetrain can be switched in real time FWD/AWDAuto,AWDLock.

So far she runs and holds corners pretty well for an SUV. Does not like bumpy roads a lot. Overall I am very impressed so far.

Nice! tu Always likes black for bigger vehicles. Parents just bought a new Dodge Caravan 2010 that can run on e85, in black laugh.

We have an older 2007 with the V6. That vehicle will soon become my Winter Beater.

We upsized the Tires as the stockers were to small for my liking. That thing will now go through 1' of snow without hesitation. Just put it on AWD and kick off the ASC for a good ride!!!

Based on the broken tail light pieces that I collected it appears I was hit by Toyota Camry 2002-2006.

Oh man sorry to hear that Alex. If it makes you feel any better someone did the exact same thing to my wifes Outlander last year. Almost exact same front end damage and it was also a hit and run.

I was able to gather pieces of the other black vehicle and found a part # on it which belonged to a 2010 Mazda 3.

After documenting everything and taking a lot of pictures, insurance fixed everything for us at no fault to me.

A week after the car got hit, I was walking my dog on the other side of the street and seen a girl pull up in her garage in a 2010 Mazda 3. I snuck up to the house and saw the girl checking out the front end of her car in the garage as if it just got freshly painted. I approached her, had a nice conversation with her, made her sh!t some bricks and reported her to the police.

Lucky for her nothing happened: stupid lazy Durham regional police didn't seem to care.

[Linked Image][Linked Image]

Anyways the main thing was that it did not make a dent in my insurance, which is all I cared about. I still have pieces of the other girls car, which I might address some other time wink

Keep at the detective work and you'll find the camry. It has to be in your neighbourhood. If you suspect a vehicle report them to the police and your insurance. They have ways to see if the vehicle was recently painted or repaired and can nail them for it.

Wow that sucks Alex (hope you find who it was) and Reza (Glad you found who it was and confronted them). I hate people who don't have the common decency to admit fault. Finding honest-to-good people isn't a natural occurrence these days.

Absolutely hate this kind of behavior. My sister and her husband both got their cars keyed last year by their neighbor who's in front of their house. They're on the end of the intersection (on top of a T intersection). We know it's him, as this was done on two separate occasions, at the same place (in front of his house, while being parked near the curb of his house). Can't prove it though. Hate them with a passion these people!

Wow this is just disgusting. I'm sorry to hear this news Alex. I feel your pain though.

My first impression looking at the remnants of that tail light was 3 series BMW but I think you nailed it with the Camry.

I truly hope you find the person responsible and they get what they deserve. Big believer in karma.

Shitty news Alex. Sorry about the damage. The sad thing is if no one was injured the cops have better things to do. It all and insurance matter now.

The only thing you can do now is get a mask and a louieville slugger find that camry and go to town.

Your should do what Terry S, did. His house is monitored 24/7 by hidden cameras. He spotted some young kids robbing his SUV on his driveway. wink

Its funny but i found at least 5 different Camry's in the neighbourhood but not yet the right one. I also reported to many property managers.

Thanks Reza, glad to hear you got out of it without denting your insurance. Of course it sucks to have accident claim on the record.
So last night I continued investigation by slowly cruising my Talon around the neighbourhood looking for crippled Camry hiding away.
[Linked Image]
So far no Camry frown

First thing i did yesterday is I filled "hit and run" report to police and shortly after reported to my insurance
To my surprise insurance took it pretty well and this claim is not going as "my fault" on the record thanks to proper "hit and run" police report.
The downside is that I will have to pay 500$ deductible if i cant find Camry. Today i am dropping off outlander at the body shop for repairs.
Hopefully they will do a good job. I have the right to refuse the car if I am not satisfied with repairs so they better make sure all body panels line up as I have eagle eye on that kind of stuff

Wait a few days but keep your eyes open. You might be looking for a Camry that looks freshly painted from the rear.

I find that these culprits usually like to return to the scene of the crime, it's human nature. Watch out for any Camry doing drive by's and grill the SOB down and start writing down license plate #'s.

I had someone hit my rental car when I was down in the US for work. Happened in Wal-Mart parking lot.
Got me thinking of installing a small little motion camera right in front of Rear view mirror or on the dash!

7 cameras outside and 1 dedicated to the inside of my garage watching Elvira 24/7, all strategically placed recording for 4 months at a time and keeping a watchful eye on every corner of my house with night vision and sound. I can even see down both streets so I can see the perps comin a mile away, when you have precious cargo to protect..how much is it really worth to you.

Thanks to the video I graciously gave to the police, they cought the 3 people involved in the CR-V break and enter. I then got restitution and 3 apology letters I'll prob frame, it puts a smile on my face every time I read them.

That system is doable when your house is detached, not so much in a town house. Not to mention one of my cars is a 1min walk away from the house in a common parking place. The 2g is locked up tight, so no worries on that front.

LOL Gui that's for sure!! It would take them ten minutes just to uncover the 2g and by then you could probably be downstairs.

Terry's camera idea is amazing. What i did when we first bought our house was walk my Rottie as much as I could. I let everyone pet her adult and child. Anyone that didnt want pet her I would tell them my address and i they every wanted to pet her to come on by. Every devils night my nieghbours get egged. I have never once been egged. Last year my 15 year old said we didnt get egged because they know her. I told we didnt get egged because your punk friends are sh!t scared of Chelsea( my rottie) She says but she is gone. I said yeah but they dont know that.......

Daaah, that sucks man!

Might be a drunk driver, that damage looks serious for a casual bump and run.

update.... Camry no where to be found. However, my talon is still looking. Got a call from adjuster...Outlander will be ready by March 10th. She needs new front bumper, headlights, hood, radiator, and new AC condenser. I told adjuster to only use OEM parts otherwise they can keep her.

Job market in Cali appears to be good. Once my wife finds a job she'll need a daily driver. She may end-up keeping Outlander and I am considering EVO X GSR demon...maybe

It varies, last time I pumped at 3.65/gallon. Only problem with GSR is price. They don't drop like outlanders or lancers.
Used 2012 are 30k+ easy and even 2010 are above 25k.

Get a new one, you won't regret it. Your right they hold their value unlike other cars. Once the Evo X is no longer made after this year, you'de be happy you bought a 2014 wink

EVO is the best explosive fuel combustion organism money can buy. Reliable AWD drivetrain powered by forced induction with lots of potential to grow; can't get much better than that. I have no doubt EVO X will not disappoint wink Currently I don't have any none mitsu made cars in the family....my wife also respects that haha rotate New EVOs are sure expensive...considering I bought my talon for 5k 8 years ago

I'll keep everyone posted with how things go.

Quick update on the hit and run situation that I posted previously.
My Outlander is back on the road and running pretty solid so far. I paid total of 775$ including deductible plus rental cost and got out of it with clean record.

Body shop charged my insurance company a total of 9296.61$. Lots of parts were replaced including hood, headlights, bumper, reinforcement bar, radiator, ac condenser, radiator support, and bunch of other small parts.

[Linked Image]

Overall the job was done well. Hood still needs a bit more alignment for my liking but I can take care of things like that better than they can. Paint looks perfect so I can take care of the rest. The only annoying issue so far is with HID projectors. I suspect my passenger headlight is possibly Chinese knock-off or maybe from a different mitsu model (lancer ?).

[Linked Image]

If you look closer than you'll see that the passenger projector adjusted slightly lower and light reflection looks straight and not like the driver side.
(my HID projects does not have adjustment screws)
Best I could do on this issue so far is that I got my original passenger headlight back from body shop. It only had mounting clip broken off but other than that its mint. I'll be comparing both headlights closely for any possibly clues when time permits. Maybe one day when garage is available again I'll swap my original back.

Last weekend I spend sometime to install roof protector and sunroof deflector smile Here are few pics

Alex you should verify that the hid bulb is installed correctly. Weird you dont have an adjuster pretty sure it is law that headlights have to adjustable.

Thanks Terry, she is a bit more fuel thirsty compared to Civic Hybrid but way more fun to drive

I miss explained that part. I do have manual adjustment knob inside the cabin that controls both HIDs but I don't have a way to adjust each bulb individually. (passenger side pointed lower)

Well it all started with the bulbs. The day I picked her up I noticed major colour discrepancy between the two.
[Linked Image]
I popped the covers to gain access to HID bulbs and immediately noticed that 4 digit numbers were different. 1706 & 3108

Driver side:

Passenger side:

So I went back to the shop (they had not clue about those numbers) so they suggested to swap bulbs from my original headlights.
[Linked Image]
With my original bulbs in place the colour temperature appeared to be more or less identical.
However, the last unresolved mystery is why reflection profile is not consistent between the two.
The driver headlight works exactly like original did but not the passenger one.

Again, best I could for this issue is to get my original (lightly damaged) passenger headlight back from the shop.
I just did a shot inside of my original passenger projector housing (bulb removed).
The "metal barrier" is what appears to be driving that "reflection profile".
I don't have a shot of what my current replaced passenger projector housing looks like but my guess it will not be the same. Most likely a straight cut
