So the 1g is going in the garage for her make over.. Sandra says its getting a sex change.

-Replacing all the body panels with black panels.
-Fixing the rust and painting the rear quarters black.
Big16g with 2g exaust manifold
3" exhaust
DSmap
PLX Wideband
INtercooler.??
255walbro

Front AGXs..stock are shot.

Bought Sandra her very own socket wrench, Shes incharge of bodywork.

For those who dont know the car....

I bought it for 500 bucks for parts, Sold the dash and wheels for 250. The guy said the motor was shot. Turned out the flywheel bolts were loose. Welded them solid and she was fine. Sandra wanted it, when she got her licence, so I drove it to the garage and It passed safety and etest without throwing any more money into it. Its a 92 Auto AWD with 150,000kms

Since then.. We really beat this car up.. from Sandra backing into cars.. learning to drive... to me smashing the door off while going backwards, trying frantically to get ready for a race..

Anyway to the pics. these are day 1.

We have a fwd donor car for all the body panels. I wasnt gonna go nuts on the paint... Or even the body work.. I hate body work. Sandblast the rust... And bondo. Id like to cut out spot from the donar and weld it in.

You cant see it.. be we grinded off the rust and replaced with riveted sheet metal. Then we coated the unseen area with this DSM specific rubberized under coating!

Then on to the other side.

Did you just bondo over the rust, or did you fiberglass first ?

Peel the tint off then use steel wool to remove the glue.

I grinded all the rust away. What you see is the rusty inner fender. Which I coated with rust convertor. I used that screen thing to reshape the fender.

120% its going to comeback probably as soon as a couple of weeks if not then in a month. You need to grind the f*ck out of that panel and then use fiberglass, follwed by a final layer of bondo.

Ive done bondo jobs before. The rust you see on the outer panel in the one pic, is gone.. There is no rust on the outer panel. Dont worry. If it does come back.. Thats ok.. The rest of the car will prolly rust out first lol.

Enlighten us Sal, this is a job I will be tackling very soon. There is scratch resistant steel wool.

Nothing to enlighten. Steel wool vs. glass = scratches...about as self-explanatory as it gets.

I'm interested in hearing about this scratch resistant steel wool, that sounds paradoxical.

Well as I always say it's great to tell people how not to do things, but it's much better if you can tell them how to do it.

OuI just pulled the film and used WD40 and a scotch brite pad. The fine one think it was yellow. No scratches at all. But you could use a razor scrapper as well just be very careful not to hit the defog lines or black around your side windows it will scrape off.

I removed my tint two years ago.

After peeling away the film, the residue was the worst part about the job. Took hours, using naphta (aka zippo fluid) and a razor with the help of a magic eraser, did wonders.

Naphta is a cleaning solvent used for offset printing presses. Not a common chemical and I doubt anyone has say 6 cans or more of zippo fluid.

Anyway, careful with the razor and your back window. If you cut any one of those lines, you'll lose your rear defrost.

I would agree with you but then I'd be wrong tongue Tempered glass vs steel wool = ZERO scratches. I know because I've had to remove tint before. It is by FAR the fastest method to get rid of the glue. You've seen my car, all the tint was removed with steel wool smile

Believe me, I was skeptical at first but it was a guy I knew at a place that does tinting that told me how to get it off when the fuzz nailed me for it. Just don't try it on non tempered glass.

Just steel wool? No lube? Not that I am ever planning removing tint glue again ever. Next time I will pay someone.

It was "sos" pads that I used, they have a cleaner in them already. Just wet them and go at it.

I use a small steam cleaner. Takes the tint off with no glue residue!!

Are you painting the car Jay? Or having someone do it for ya?

Were doing it. Im using all the body panels from the black fwd in the back yard. So i only have to paint the rear quarters. I have a paint gun but no copressor so i woll prolly just rattle can it. cant afford to make it look perfect. Lol.

I've used steel wool on glass before in the trade. Works fine. No scratches.

Nice project Jay. Looks to be coming along great.

Are scotch brite or steel wool going to scratch the defog lines?

You gotta soak the paper towel in ammonia which reacts with sunlight and you will be able to scrape the tint off.
