You've got $15k to spend on a fun car...but it can't be a DSM!

What do you buy and why? Old school? New school? VW Beetle? Mustang? EVO? Miata? Reliant? Let's hear what else people are interested in.

Well if I just aquired 15 grand right now. I wouldnt buy another DSM anyway.. Id prolly buy something I could drift. Like a old rx7 or an old skyline. And dump the rest of the money into performance!

-08+ saab 93 aero awd manual. Because they are detuned monsters, and no one seems to know what they are.

-s600, cl600. because maybach v12 twin turbo engine easily running 11's with a flash tune with the a/c on and massage seats working the kinks out of my back.

-widebodied FD rx7. Because I've always wanted one.

-some sort of hybrid car. I'd really like to start messing with electric assists, etc.

Stock.

Evo IX MR...even though for $15k it would probably have over 150k miles. I'd make it run a 12.5s 1/4 mile on a stock setup, drive it daily, then I would cage and rally my FWD lancer.

Sorry, I'm a Lancer kid.

Good call. My dd is a tuned '07 93 aero (not awd) and the torque steer can be a challenge at times.

Keeping with the thread, I just bought an '06 mazdaspeed6 as an awd project. I'd spend the 15k to make it a very unassuming, high hp sleeper.

I'd settle with either a subaru or a mk3 supra and focus on a 2jz swap/power mods.

My picks would be:

Evo 8
Audi S4 (the v6 TT model)
99 3000GT VR4

Definitely has to be turbo and AWD. Now that I've had that I don't want anything else!

Less expensive for one tongue Less weight, less things to go wrong, easier to do a tranny swap, there are ups.

Besides, bikes don't come AWD wink

I'm glad to see people aren't sticking with the rules, because really who cares laugh Just wanted to see what else people are into.

Interesting to see who would and who would not want AWD. I've personally grown to prefer RWD in my "fun" cars these days. I have an AWD daily.

For my $15k I'd probably build a turbo E36 BMW:

[Linked Image]

I'd be happy with almost any '90s RWD import as a platform though.

I'd do a full body job on my truck, built 47RH tranny and probably still have enough for a simple compound turbo setup and fuel upgrades.

500-700hp and 1200+ft/lbs is not hard to do on a 12 valve cummins, it's the 4G63 of the truck world.

Something like so would fit the bill quite nicely smile

More fuel efficient and don't want to burst your bubble but a Honda will walk all over your dsm (and most dsms) on the circuit.. It's a fact bird

Yeah and unless a circuit pops up every time I line up beside a guy at a red light I couldn't care less.
I also said AWD I didn't say DSM, I know anything couldn't walk over me at a track, you should see how long it takes me to get through a hair pin with this thing!

You could spend all day listing anything that would make a fwd a better car.. And i still would not go back to one. Awd or rwd or nothing!

To me, theres only a few really fun cars worth more then a grand of my money. DsMs, Evos, stis, supras, slylines, RX7s...if its not gonna stand out and be obnoxious....then kick everyones ass... Then id rather just spend 1000 bucks on some beater.

Muscle cars are nice... But belong in meuseums. Ill get one when im old and retired. Something like a 71 hemicuda convertable... But prolly not for 15 grand.
