I also bought a 15 foot roll of carbon fiber that looked really good. I did the hood and roof

Ive never seen a blue like that on a car, I can't believe how well it complements the car. What spot gave you the most trouble?

Took the car off the stands for the first time, and today was the first time it's moved under it's own power in 7 years. Drives really well!

Fenders are done, now the roof is under the knife (er... sanding block) next as well as the hatch to get rid of the fade, then getting painted. I still want to tuck some more stuff in the engine bay.

Thats got to be a great feeling, I'm impressed on how far you've come in such a short period of time but then again I know this isn't your first rodeo.

Maybe a few other members on the board can take a lesson from this 'Blitz' build and get moving (you know who you are)... tongue

Yeah looks good Lucian!

If you are going to paint it yourself give us some tips, from what I have read the roof is the biggest bitch to paint and I want to do mine too.

I've been trying to do a little bit of work every day to get it done smile But I agree. It's a lot of fun driving them, I can't wait to finish it and be able to drive it whenever I want! smile

Yep I will be painting it myself. The engine bay I only touched up some spots. 90% of what you see under there is the original paint.

Thanks Bryan. Long flat surfaces I do find a little trickier than just say, a fender. I've never painted a roof on a DSM, the old red one I left the roof original since the paint was good on it. This time around I'm doing my roof, fenders, and hatch as well as a friend's roof that same day (also a 1G). I have new tools to use this time around so it should come out nice I hope. The hardest part is the prep for the paint.

That's why mine stays in garage. Not to mention I have a bunch of large pine trees around and the pitch that falls off of them is just horrible.

Thanks Petro,
I hand wash both of them once every two weeks. They get dusty fairly quickly after about a week. No rain to worry about here (it rained twice since Oct 2013) but everyone here wishes we had more of it.

Cooling issues from rad being blocked by a front mount and lower spool time? tongue I tested my duct on the highway on my way to and from your house, 180deg constant without fans. and a 1/4 tank for the trip to and from Kitchener to Brampton.

I know it's better for higher power and extra cooling, but for what I need it for, it's not needed. All I want out of the 1g is a quick daily, good on gas that can possibly later on do some Auto-X. Worse comes to worse, I have a water injection kit itching to get used wink

Holy crap. You got 200 to a 1/4 tank? Thats crazy. Right you have a 18g on that 1g. But I can run 190 on a highway cruise allday long. People with silly cooling temp usually have cooling system issue to start with. But I dont think I ever got 200km to 10L of fuel.

I still your crazy for shuning a front mount. Honestly I love mine. And its not even a great one. But I guess if you google all the morons that have issues it scares people...... I know you are not scared of spending money on your DSM's. Which is good. But I tell you once you go front mount you will never turn back. And that shroud will help alot and even better if you fab up an airdamn to create a lower pressure system under your engine.

After all the fmics Ive installed. Installing the supra mount on Sandras 1g seemed so easy! i dont blame you for sticking with sidemounts. There proven to hold up against alot of fmics.

Out of curiosity, how low does the Supra Side Mount on Sandra's car sag relative to the bottom of the car?

[Linked Image]

That's how low mine sags, couldn't bring it up anymore than that due to how I mounted it. I do agree, ease of installation/price and gains are unequal to anything a FMIC can bring to the table.

Yes, I do realize that Stephen. I do actually have FMICs for both my cars in storage (both of which are long route so I can switch easily from one set up to another if I ever chose to do so). I have more DSM parts than you can shake a stick at tongue I just don't see their purpose on a daily though. It also attracts unwanted attention from both the local police who love to bug anyone with modded cars in Brampton/Toronto and all the "yo bro" types that love to rev at anything with shiny bits sticking out lol Heck I was on the verge of buying an ETS street kit anodized black for the 2g a little while back as a "just in case" future part but decided against it. A good water injection (no need for meth) can help my SMIC perform just as good as any FMIC out there if not better, and only kicks in when I truly need it, unlike a FMIC that can't be switched on and off.

I also like being different and keeping things simple. Less chances of things going wrong and this car has been problematic since day 1!

Let me know how that works for you once you heat soak that intercooler of yours after 6 good pulls (with meth) Then compare that to a FMIC with a good core.

Also don't try to argue that spool is faster. Just repeat what I said above.

again.....this is a DAILY.

Per the logical sense, yes it will spool quicker. Fills up quicker, piping is short. That's just math. Is it something that I'll likely see a difference while driving, probably not. But it will spool quicker, especially on already quick spooling turbos. fact.

Usually, it is not necessary to upgrade the intercooler when raising boost levels. The pressure drop contributed by the intercooler is proportional to it's flow (CFM) squared. This relationship shows that it is highly unlikely the change resulting in loss from higher boost levels will require a larger intercooler. If there is a significant change however, such as 40% or 50%, then a larger intercooler may be necessary.

Pressure loss, or pressure drop, refers to the change in pressure when comparing the air entering the intercooler with the exiting air. This change is mostly affected by the internal flow area of the intercooler. Flow loss, however, is measured not just with pressure loss but with how much restriction to airflow exists. Maximum performance can be obtained if the pressure loss is kept below 1.0 to 1.5 psi. Anything in excess of these numbers, especially higher than 3.8 psi, and the intercooler is not properly fitted for the application which results in hindered performance and dramatically decreased functionality of the intercooler system itself.

Too small of a core, and you will restrict the potential of the turbo by not allowing the charge air to be cooled adequately.

Directly copied from Garrett. So you have a Greddy 18G on your car? Tell me more about how you have a properly sized cooler for your car....
Lets here this math you speak of...

From documented successfull experiance... People have been running supra sidemounts for many years making really good power and fast cars. The supra side mount is known to be a very good contender for a street car. And handles heat well. Specially for anything that can fit i a td05 housing.

And Im waiting for my speed density to run it.

Aren't supra SMIC's a thing of the past now that there are cheap pre fabbed kits for our cars?

I know you love your side mounts Gui tongue.

Absolutely, but this a daily, never abused and not boosting more than 15 psi at the moment (and probably ever). Purposely made to save gas and have a bit of ummpphh when needed. So yes, per your logic and your copy and paste from Garrett, this intercooler will do what it's suppose to. Not to mention, unlike many SMIC users, I have it properly ducted and cleaned thoroughly in and out before use. You're thinking taking it to the limit, boosting way higher (with 40-50% changes in CFM and most likely be at or higher than the sweet spot of the turbo). In which case you'd be right. This isn't the case here.

As for the math, pay me for my time and I'll have a model made for you via Fluent to show you that at my boost level, it does indeed do what I'm saying. I know when you're pushing it to the limit you need a FMIC...hence why I have 2 sets (one for each car) in storage if I ever wish to change my vision on the cars. As a daily like I have....not needed it's just wasted money.

So again, what are you serving? I have the day off today, I'd love a nice cold beer wink
