I recently acquired a set of 264 HKS reginds for a 1g, I need to machine a thread in the end of the cams to accept my 97-99 cam sensor.... Anyone know the exact depth, size and thread pitch I need to do this mod?

You mean to bolt up the sprocket?

Nope, I want my 2g cam sensor to work with cams setup to work with the 1g sensor, 2g sensors have a bolt and the 1gs have a slotted key that sits in a Grove.

2 g's have a cam sensor that is bolted to the head with a shutter plate bolted to the sprocket(cam gear). 1gs have a drivedog that the CAS slots into. Sorry I am confused at which thread size you want.

Thank you Mike, do you know if I need to machine any other portion of the cam shaft in order to properly install the shutter or is it just getting the thread tapped?

No other machining required, just drill and tap.

Too bade they aren't actual HKS cams cause I would have just traded you. Rob modded this one before I bought it off him.

How do you have your cam shaft stored Bryan? I know you've had it for a while I was just wondering if you have it wrapped up air tight and covered with oil or If it's just sitting in a milk crate exposed to air/dust/dirt I would check it for rust pits.... Don't want to let a REAL HKS cam shaft go to waste tongue

I would have done the same Mike but Rob also had it coated in that lube coating so it's fine.

Do you mean the dry film lube?

Because even that can corrode.

Best to lube it, and wrap your shaft wink

My GSC's sat in open air for over a year and have no rust or anything on them.

Assembly lube works great for parts storage. Even if you rub most of it off, it tends to still leave enough film to prevent rust.

Permatex part number 81950; around $4 for a bottle. I always keep some around to cover bare metal that's being stored. Comes off in seconds with brake cleaner.

On a side note - I use moly-based assembly lube to actually put an engine together; it's just too expensive to store parts with laugh

Used them for one summer, then I tore the car down.

That's fairly impressive. I've seen cams develop surface rust within a week or two of being pulled. Quicker if you clean them when you pull them out.

Well then, I'll go wrap the cams I pulled yesterday right away then.

Yeah, they actually looked brand spanking new. Not a thought of rust on them.
