Hi DSMers,
I have a 1Ga Talon TSI AWD. I have been having an issue with my rad fan not turning on. I went to Isaque's place last night and we found that the 30amp fuse attached to the battery was blown. We swapped it out with a different 30amp fuse, took it for a spin, and it blew again.
I am not an electrician, but I would guess there is something wrong with the rad fan motor for it to keep shorting out the fuse? Seized? Would the solution be to replace the rad fan?
Also, it should be noted that with my IC setup, the AC fan was removed and that spot is vacant. Is it possible to directly swap the non-functional rad fan with the working AC fan?
thanks,
Danny

You can use the AC fan in place of the rad fan to troubleshoot, and pinpoint the short. I doubt it will push enough CFM to actually be used as the sole rad fan though, it'll probably stay on constantly.

Basically a process of elimination, if you suspect the fan being the issue (which seems likely) replace it with the AC fan temporarily, run the car to it's nominal temp and see if the fan comes on without popping any fuses. If that works than you have proven the problem to the rad fan, replace it and away you go!
