So looking at picking up a 3D printer, I have already picked out the one I want. It's based on a pretty nice printer but is a reprap. It has plenty of support and lot of info. I was planning to use it for making some parts, right now I want to use it for making a new gauge bezel. The one that was in the car looks like it was made with one already but has a sticker on top which I am not a fan of and mind sets the gauges too wide so I have to hack up the panel and don't want to do that this time. Here is the printer: http://www.gearbest.com/3d-printers-3d-printer-kits/pp_343643.html

Can it print blow up dolls? Haha I am sure it can most people who are interesting in that stuff are using the printer to print the mold then pouring silicon into the mold. Yeah Scott, this one seems to be the best cheap printer out there.

Here it is on the printer tray: In dash, painted black, with the letters / numbers sanded to show the white:

Printer arrived!! It's a DIY kit so I spent all last night and some time this morning assembling and I am still going. Hoping I can finish off tonight, I don't think it included and filament so going to need to figure out where I will be grabbing that from.

Rob, what are you using for modeling. I am trying to build a vent cluster right now. I have finished the guage part but I am trying to figure out how I can do the cut outs for the venting and for the talon emblem I want in the middle.

Well as most of you know I am not the most patient guy, I have spent the last few hours figuring it all out. Here is my first prototype, I stopped it after 2 layers so I could test fit and make modifications, the next print will let finish and see how it goes.

I have the luxury of being able to use SolidWorks for CAD since I work at a SolidWorks reseller. If I didn't have that available, I'd probably use "Onshape" https://www.onshape.com/Its much like SolidWorks (look/feel and parametric), and they have a free version which allows saving to STL or other file types.

Well because that was my prototype I only printed off two layers. The final one took me around 2 hours to print and that was at .2mm print layer. I posted the picture here http://www.ca.dsm.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=453250#Post453250I will take a look at those tools and see how they compare to fusion 360.
