Damn. Set a date, and I'm in! I'll talk to other people around here, maybe we can all head over... I'm quite sure myself and another guy can make it. Not sure if I wanna drive for 35+ hours tho, might just fly out there and watch. Anybody have any idea what a flight costs from Edmonton/Calgary down there? ------------------ Darin Chalifoux 92 Laser AWD "Fat guys can drive, too!" It appears that the last weekend in July is good for the Michigan guys as well..(approx. 15 of them!) So, can we book that weekend then, and I'll stop telling everyone (Alex Banducci's friend with a 16G's Probe is also interested.. I asume more Probe guys as well..) that the SUGGESTED date is the last weekend in July, and tell them it's THE date?? ------------------ 1992 Eagle Talon Tsi FWDSuperiority after 60'.. Ok I will contact the people and tell them what you guys said, its in the works, in the meantime keep telling everyone you know. Cause I'm gonna direct them to this page, they'll see how much interest there is, so this thing can then be put together. word? for the people to the people lame huh?

Craig, stop blowing it up, man. Update.... "we" are currently trying to secure the date and make sure that we can get the comitment, I am not going to say when for sure the date is gonna be, just that the more you guys speak up the more credibility that this event is gaining. the "we" I am refering to has experience in handling these kind of events and promotions so this will take some of the stress of my back, and is very interested. also the response from you is very positive. i'll keep you posted

Well it official, there is no 2000 shootout in the U.S Just means we are going to have to hold our own So how big of a show are we going to put on? Is this going to be full import race day or just DSM? Prizes? other events (autox, car show?) one or two days? questions, questions, questions! We should also let those attending know that London or Cayuga fall far short of the ammeneties(sp?) of Norwalk. ------------------ '91 Laser RS Turbo-"Sound Advice" guy. www.geocities.com/motorcity/speedway/5051 Turbo + Intercooler = The replacement for Displacement [This message has been edited by Chris Holmes (edited February 28, 2000).]

Why does it have to be "imports"? That sounds a bit restrictive to me. Couldn't it be DSM against the world? Mustangs, F-bodies, GNs and "imports" (that does mean Honda Civics, right?) As long as they're modern street cars, not back-halved 60s wonders, that would be fun! Yes, no, maybe??? ------------------ Francois Villeneuve Le Talon Working on it...

Sounds good to me.. I'd love to take on some F-Bodies!! Until we get a confirmed date, I don't think we're going to get a lot of interest from the digest. The Michigan guys are (obviously) in, as well as some Ford Probe guys, etc. but anyone long distance is probably going to want to know if and when before they start making plans.. ------------------ 1992 Eagle Talon Tsi FWDSuperiority after 60'.. Um, that might not be a great idea Francois. Some guy in a non-tubbed Stang will run 8's or low 9's, and then every DSM there will look slow.

If we want to call it a DSM event, but still allow other cars, how about this: Come in a DSM or come as the guest of a DSM. Require non-DSMs to have a Club DSM member invite or "sponsor" them (kind of like vouching for them that they're "cool"). That should keep the event "Private" & between friends ------------------ Marta dsmgrrrl@hotmail.com 92 Talon TSi AWD (take two) and soon to be the "NV" of Quebec-DSM (figure *that* one out!)

We need a Shootout in Saskatchewan. A little more central for everyone. Too bad there aren't any tracks here. I'm driving to a shootout no matter where the hell it is this year. I've wanted to go for the past two years, now I decided on it, and they go and cancel the thing. [grrrr...] Calgary DSM can meet up with us Saskatchewanites and we'll all head down in a huge caravan. It'll be great!! Count me in guys. Who's making up a web page with the info?? Come on, one of you in CA.DSM who have at least BEEN to this track before. Stick up a quick and dirty info page and Todd will link to it as shootout.dsm.org. Can't wait!! Kevin Belitski SASK.DSM.ORG http://www.cableregina.com/users/belitski

That sounds like a good idea Marta. That way you can get at least half of the cars as DSMs. I do think you need to let in non-DSM guys and gals if you want a big turn out. It'd be nice to have the F body guys and other domestics (GNs, Mustangs etc) show up too. But I hear Peter. Like it or not, the fastest domestic guys in the Ontario area are faster than the fastest import people (let alone DSM people) here. You can make a stipulation that the cars be non-trailered and streetable. That should cut down the 8 second guys. Ummm, oh ya. Someone bloody invite me then. ------------------ Allan Mazda 626 1994 T3 super 60 turbo RX7 FM intercooler V6 2.5L KL03

I dunno about that. The response I've seen from the DSM digest has been pretty tepid. I don't think you'll get a big enough crowd of participants to make it an 'event' if y'all restrict it to DSM only.
Seriously, how many DSM guys/gals show up at the Yorkdale meets or run at Caygua? Yeah, you get your group that DO go, but it ain't a huge amount of folk.
Even if you throw in all the rest of Canada, New York, Michigan etc., you may not get a huge turnout if it's DSM only. Besides, it'd be your chance to show others what your cars can really do. Who knows, open up some eyes over on the V8 crowd.
Yeah, I guess you'd want to keep it DSM focused and do the invite thing. But with Atmosphere Performance in Georgia (good shop -- they sent me two 16Gs all fine and dandy after fessing up on a mistake on shipping on their end -- they ate the shipping charge mistake) wanting to do a DSM shootout, I seriously doubt you'll get many US guys showing up other than Michigan/NY.

What about making it a bracket racing event with different classes? Say
15 and up 13-14.99 under 13
Bracket racing rewards the driver more than the car. So the 12.90 guy has a good chance against the 10 seconds guy (or gal, hey Marta?). Besides, pro-light quick 8 type of event is kind of strange unless you have REALLY fast cars...
We could make rules like : no tube or back-halved cars, no power adder (turbo or NOS) for the V-8 cars, must be registered and insured, etc...
Also, I find this whole "bring a V-8 pal" idea to be excellent!
Final tough. We shouldn't call is SHOOTOUT. We should come with an original name. Personally, I like the "DSM vs the world" I saw in one of the first posts. But then, I'm an old fart, so what do I know?
