What a beautiful day dor a race! There were tons of Talons out there today. A few in the 12's, about 4 Civics in the 11's. I think the fastest talon there was a guy from Michigan who has a local shop there, he ran a 12.11 I came runner up in the ET2 class. Ever so close Nope, I didn't get into the 12's, but thank goodness I brought a datalogger.. one of my passes at 20psi on race gas had my knock sensor maxed out at 44, which retarded my timing to 4 degrees!!! That was my fastest run as well at 13.41. My A/f was all over the place on that run. Started at 90v, then dropped down as rpm's increased, then did a few spikes (all in WOT). Looks like my car is wood because I'm still running stock injectors... Time to upgrade! All in all, it was a great day out there Thanks goes out to our friends at Magnus Motorsports and Action Front for sponsoring the event. Great job guys!

I had an awesome day. I've never raced before, but I decided to try it at the last minute as I was pulling in. My car is a 95 TSI AWD and my mods are K&N filter, Dave Brode UIC pipe and HKS BOV, boost at 13 lbs and some suspension tweaks (everything else stock, including exhaust) I had Mike Jackson explain the staging/tree to me, and I was off (after having one of the track hillbillies yell at me because I hadn't gone through the tech inspection yet). My first run was against a mean looking charcoal grey RX-7. Big front mount, Magnus sticker across the winshield, etc. I figured I'd get pumped, but it didn't happen. Even though it obviously wasn't running right, it still made me feel good to cross the line first... My slip was: Reaction: 0.888 60 ft: 2.108 1/4 ET: 14.818 14/MPH: 90.03 I can't remember which order these next two races came in, but one was against (I think) local DSMer Dennis Camacho (was that you in the turquoise 1G?) and one was against some nameless Integra which later did quite well in the bracket racing... (I lost both) Reaction: 0.828 60 ft: 2.067 1/4 ET: 14.873 1/4 MPH: 89.25 (for this one I stayed in 3rd instead of shifting into 4th) Reaction: 0.878 60 ft: 2.135 1/4 ET: 14.810 14/MPH: 91.09 This last one was against a Golf. Again I stayed in 3rd to the end... Reaction: 0.836 60 ft: 2.030 1/4 ET: 14.749 14/MPH: 91.26 I dialed in a 14.80 for bracket racing, but on the first run I smoked the clutch real bad on the launch and just coasted the rest of the way (I think I was against a DSMer here to, can't remember...) Reaction: 0.897 60 ft: 2.346 1/4 ET: 17.587 14/MPH: 65.58 I didn't want to totally destroy my clutch, so I packed it up after that. So my reaction times and especially my 60 ft times could use some work, but that didn't stop me from having a good time. It also seems that my ETs go down and my MPH go *up* if I don't shift into fourth which seems weird, especially with the T25 weezing away at high revs. Something to investigate on another day. Yes, an awesome time! My first ever time racing and my friend who came along, first time watching. My best E/T was 14.129 at 99.55 MPH. I was very happy with that, even won the first two rounds in ET/2 until I got too much water on my tires and couldn't grip worth a darn. ------------------ 90 TSi FWD @ 15PSI Raced a Kawasaki KX-11(or something) Scared the hell out of me, and him

Yeah, it was a great day for drag racing. I only made 2 runs. Started off with a 14.24 @94.2MPH. The second run was my personal best, 13.89 @95.9MPH, that was at 14PSI, time to get a fuel pump. There were lots of Talons but only a few were in the 12's. The red Mazda Precidia in the Quick 8 was wicked. It had a hard time hookin up, but when it did it was a rocket.

Congratz to Jeff Mitchell and Jeff Feldsher for hitting 14's in their first-time-ever at the strip. Good job guys! Jeff M. did you see me giving you the thumbs up before we got signalled to proceed to the staging lanes? Yes, it was an excellent day for racing. I was having a great time but I had to cut it short. I had to leave at 2:30 to attend my nephew's Christening reception (got in sh!t for being late). I had a total of 3 runs. My best one - R/T 1.034 0 to 60ft. 2.001 13.87 @ 99.13 It could have been better with a good reaction time. BTW, You guys with the 20G's, where were you? - Andrew B., Andrew Chin, PPG. ------------------ '92 Talon AWD TSi

Dennis, Nope, I didn't see that. Thanks anyways for the encouragement though. I'm usually too busy rolling up my windows and putting down the sunroof that I forget to do in the lanes. I actually did one run with the window down by accident. I didn't notice until stuff started flying off my dashboard at high speeds. I was very careful about it after that... Jeff Mitchell

Great turn out on the "them" part. There was a lot of the Toronto guys that were missing unfortunately. I was a little bit disapointed about that. We got back to Montreal at 2:00 am this morning. ungh!
A part from that, the event was great. A lot of people showed up. There was actually a line to get in up to 2:00 pm.
The guy who ran a 12.03 with his FWD AUTOMATIC!! was really nice. He turns up to be a friend of TRE and did some code work on the TRE MASC. He had an interesting set-up: 8 450 injectors where tghe second fuel rail was plumbed in the runners of his custom made intake manifold. He says by injecting the fuel in the runners he has a much better fuel atomization. The runners were super short which should give a lot of high end, but it was'nt the case on his car. He spent countless hours designing it and managed to build small runners which gives out high velocity even though the runners were short.
Anyways, he was a really nice guy and knowledgeable. His exhaust manifiold looked like a scientific experiment with all the taps and plugs into it.
Francois's car ran like crap. The most embarassing part is that it only required a new set of plugs. Thanks to Brett and his rollings parts bin, he managed to find an old set of plugs. Thanks again!!
The sounds that came out of these rotaries and turbo civics were awesome. But they could only do a clean pass half the time.
Thanks again Marco for the event.

It was a slow day but a good day . It was good to meet more of the DSM community. It was also good to see some drag rac'n vigins get'n thier cherries plucked . The times and trap speeds were slow but the grip was good so I think it was due to the strong wind. I am finally getting use to the 2600 and the drag radials as I pulled off my first 2.1 sec 60 ft (remember I'm FWD). Also in one run I had the wipers come on at launch, then again going into 2nd and again going into 3rd . Now that's hard shifting . The runner up streak is over. I was eliminated in the 3rd round by a guy who dialed in outta the class range . That's when I got my 2.1 60 ft so I ran thru my dial in even with braking at the end. Oh well. The ride home was interesting... Alex, Jeff and I were doing a pretty good clip on the 401 after dark. Sorry to the Datarecovery guy (damn me I can't remember your name right now) for cutting you off around the Homer Watson exit to Kitchener. My bro and I got out to watch the turbo glow when we stopped at McPukes just off the 401... not that was way cool . BTW my boost control was screwed and I was back up to 25 psi on 93 octane fpr the ride home (ooops). I had a good time. To all those I met for the first time it was good to meet you... and don't kill me for not remembering your names later... it's a problem I have. Tonight I'll be showing the wife the video tape to try and convince her to come out to an event. Damn was it ever packed eh? Alex showed me his datalogs from one of the first runs... can you say boom! I'm surprised he didn't blow something. The knock went up to 43 (max) going into 2nd and stayed there pretty much right to the end. That coulda been bad. But some detuning of the boost and the aggressive timing seemed to help a lot. That datalogger is so great... almost neccessary for the more modded. Thanks to all those who made the event happen. Later... ------------------ -Quadcylla-92 Laser RS-T, FWD

Best time yesterday was 13.9x at 99 mph. That was including braking at the end... I usually pass the line at 104 when I'm in the 13's so you can see it woulda been better if I didn't brake. ------------------ -Quadcylla-92 Laser RS-T, FWD

Didn't see any non-turbo's there, but I did smoke a stripped out Acura Integra Vtec, with a JR supercharger P.S. Mike, I ordered the Rocker Cover Gasket from Cdn Tire, only cost me $27 bucks!(the one without the plugs) It will be in by tomorrow. Do you have time this week?

Yeah, where were the DSMs????? Apart from the 2 guys from Michigan, the DSMs were pretty slow (myself included). My car did run like pure crap. Missing all the way through 3rd and 4th! And it turned out the problem was a bad set of plugs! Thanks a million to Brett who gave me a good set of BP7ES (no R, don't get the ones with the R ) and my car was back to life. With the boost backed out to 20psi, the PMS set all wrong (I though the car was missing because it was running too lean, so my fuel compensation was pig rich) and the good plugs, I did manage a run in the 12s, 12.92 at 108 I think. Still, I was all set for some low 12s. After the day, we were all tired (myself, Michel and Serge) and very disapointed. Still, Brett might have saved my car from the junk yard! Thanks again man! I remembered you and Erin as being super cool at the SO in 98 and that hasn't changed a bit!!! ------------------ Francois Villeneuve Le Talon 12.53@113.4MPH

Francois, the colder range plugs for our cars is BP"R" 7ES, or is it different for the 2nd gen cars? And why not buy the ones with the "R"? I'm curious to say the least.

Glad to hear you guys had a good time. I couldn't make it because I'm in Colorado Springs. However, there is a IDRC event this Sunday at Bandimere race park just outside of Denver. All the fast imports are supposed to be there including Eric Plebani in his Starion. Since it's only about 60 miles away I think I'm going to go and watch ------------------ '91 Laser RS Turbo-"Sound Advice" guy. www.geocities.com/motorcity/speedway/5051 Turbo + Intercooler = The replacement for Displacement

You should ask Brett, he's the one who told me that.
I think the "R" stands for resistor. Those resistors are for radio interference supression. Without it, your radio will buzz when on AM radio (I haven't tried it yet, but who cares about AM radio anyway?).
Since they don't have that resistence, they might be better for high boost application. I don't know but my car seems to like them very much. On the highway with 3 of us in the car, we had no problem whatsoever keeping up with a new M5.

You mean the one with the broken driveshaft? That'd be me. I was hoping for 12.50s on Sunday since my best time of the day was a 12.87 @ 116.9 MPH w/ a 2.268 60' and to top it off, I blew the lower IC pipe about 85% of the way down the 1/4. The temp was perfect to drop the ET and pick up a 120 MPH trap. *argh*

Kevin and I see each other quite often at Milan Dragway. Hes come a long way this season. He's flirting with high 11.80s imo when he gets some more tuning done. Most likely, this will place him as the top DSM qualifier at the upcoming Detroit vs. Imports this Saturday in Milan MI. Too much bad juju has shutdown all of our 11 sec guys for the season, and theres only 4 of us in the 12s. We need more DSMs to show to help us out!
