After my timing belt system was done, I noticed that there is a leak where the power steering line connects ontop of the p/s pump. I heard there is a rubber gasket in there that needs replacing. Where can I get one, and for how much?

Peter,
living in Nova Scotia we see a lot of corrosion stuff earlier than anyone else will. It may be the gasket, but the lines may also be corroded through. They're in a bitch of a place to get at as well. Mine went about 3 years ago, and they emptied the fluid fast. You have to drop the rack to get at them.
Good luck

I just replaced those 2 lines near the steering rack. I ordered the lines from Tallahassee Mits and it came to about $100 CDN shipped (dealer wanter $220 plus tax). They were very corroded and one finally totally split emptying the resevoir every km or so. I took it to The Muffler Man here at Highland/Westmount in Kitchener and got them replaced for the quoted 2 hours labour (even though it took almost 3 1/2 hours). They continue to get my business cuz they do stand up stuff like that [Linked Image] So just over $200 later (parts and labour) the leak is gone (hopefully for good... I'm gonna start getting undercoating religeously).

Later...

When I brought my car to get the timing belt done, there was no leak at all. Right after there was. Are you guys saying that fitting may have been corroded, and broke while doing the belt?

Is there a gasket between the hose and the pump that I could try replacing first?

I bet you 20$ it's the Oring. It happened to me last fall and it cost me an alternator because the fluid driped down on it. Just take a 14 mm socket and unscrew the bolt. Take out the Oring and go to any garage. Most garage have universal Oring kits.

Total repair time:3 minutes (if you have the Oring already)

it's going to be ready tomorrow, I promise

Sorry Peter I think were talking about different lines... I just saw Georges post about the lines near the rack and put down my experiences. But the pump is near the resevoir right? If so then it won't be the lines we're talking about... they begin and end right around the steering rack.

it may be the o-rings that go on between the power steering pump and the line out, there are two of them on a rod thingy (dont know what to call it) mine were leaking badly too, just undo the top nut on the line out and see if they are decent...i got mine from the auto store for free, guy just gave to me...its a five minute job to fix, if that is where you are leaking.

If you need the power steering pump lines I have an extra set for sale. (converted to manual steering). Try the o-ring first though for sure!

Yup, it was the O-ring. A $1.39 fix from Cdn tire in the plumbing department [Linked Image]
