Okay while driving my engine light comes on and off. If I go WOT with the light on it "bucks" like crazy and then goes like hell. Sometimes it doesn't "buck" but I'll hit full boost(15psi) and it will just die. It's not fuel cut because I have experienced fuel cut before and this is totally different. Mike J. I know your probably saying I should buy one of your code encoders, but I don't have the time to drive all the way to KW. So do any of you guys have any idea on what it might be? I had the same problem with an intercooler pipe off before but I have checked all of then this time. It has new plugs in it and the wires are 8mm and only about 8 months old. Thank's for any tips
.
Gav

I don't have the exact same problem, but my car's check engine light recently came on. However a short time after, it went off, came on, than today it went off again. I think it's b/c of my test pipe, but shouldn't the check engine light constantly be on?

Ummmmm I work in Mississauga. You could also use a voltmeter to read the code.

Later...

The O2 sensor will turn the CE light on then go off but the code is logged. I had the EXACT symptom and it was the O2 sensor. Remember the ECU does not use the O2 sensor under WOT, it uses maps. So, when you are under partial throttle the ecu tries to use the O2 sensor to adjust the A/F but gets wrong readings. That is why the car bucks. When you go WOT the ECU turns to fuel maps and the car resumes power as normal.

Thank's for the info guys. Chris how much did your O2 sensor cost? Mine is an AWD. Does it make any diff? Mike I'll be coming home tommorow around 6 can I meet you at your place of work anytime after? Give me a number where I can reach you or give me directions to your work from the 401 and Mississauga Rd. and we can meet at a certain time and place. Nick I have a test pipe on right now and have had it on for a while and had no problems with the engine light coming on before. So I don't see that being your prob unless yours is a 2nd gen. Thank's again,
Gavin

If it is the O2 sensor then get it form Tallahasi Mitsu as they are about $65 U.S, in Canada an aftermarket sensor is $165 and factory is over $200...

$235 wass what I was quoted... before tax! I got mine from Concielli... about $100 shipped.... no taxes. You'll need a special socket to replace it but other then that it's a breeze.

Hey Nick

Since I had my test pipe installed my CE light has stayed on permanently. On and off doesn't sound like what it should be doing, unless I'm mistaken.

Yeah, my is a 2g. When i first stuck my test pipe on, the light never came on. After a few months it did. I reseted it and it went away. It came back 2 weeks later, went off, than on, than off again. For now it's been off. When i up to a 3 inch system, i'm going to put my cat back on.

Well I did the code test myself using an analog voltmeter. The first time I got a code for Vehicle speed sensor. Reset the computer and it went away. Went for a spin and the light came on again! This time it came up as throttle postition sensor, but no VSS. Where is the throttle position sensor? I got no code for O2 sensor. You guys still think it might be that? Sometimes when the car is hot and I start it, it sounds like it's running on three cylinders until I give it some gas, then it sounds normal at idle. It sounds like a plug wire or maybe a faulty injector. But wouldn't it come up on the ECU? More help please.

I had a similar problem, with the engine running really really rough, (almost like 3 cyl.) and it was as simple as a my #4 wire ... it wasn't firing straight to the plug but off to the side.... this must have shut down the entire cylinder.... and my car ran like sh!t... i changed the plugs and the wirez and BOOM back to the GOOD OL' DSM
