I just read this off the digest:
___________________________________________
[If it is lifter noise, you are more likely to hear it at idle,
when the oil pressure is much lower. Also, you might find that
the ticking is not lifter noise but is carbon buildup that is so
thick on your pistons that it is hitting your valves on every
stroke. This is what I had. I know that because the noise went
completely away after I recently did the MCCC trick. -talon mgr]

um, if this is the case, that's goddam scary [Linked Image] . Can anyone elaborate on this? Does Satan carry MCCC? Actaully if I go to Satan again, I'll probably go Postal or something [Linked Image] , so where else can I get this stuff?

Last I heard, Mopar have discontinued production of the MCCC. You may have to look for some alternative brands. Where? I'm not too sure about that one but there was some recent discussion on MCCC alternatives on the Talon Digest. Do a search on MCCC on the archives at www.dsm.org.

Can anyone verify that there is carbon hitting the valves? If that's the case, it's a shitty thing to happen. I mean think about it - bent valves & then broken ones.

Hmm...
i get that tick-tick sound at idle only. When my engine heats up it fades away. How could carbon buildup fade away once it gets hot?? Are you sure about this? Or maybe im just lame and when the oil pressure rises it absorbs the sound? Also, what the heck is MCCC? dsm.org returned no hits. BTW when i got my car inspected by the CAA, they told me that I shouldnt worry about that sound.

Mopar Combustion Chamer Cleaner

CAA? No offense- but what do they know about our cars?

That comment was written by talon mgr, and if anyone knows DSMs, he's the one.

If the ticking is there cold and goes away quickly, it most likely the lifters are not pressurized yet or dirty, try a good engine flush like Amsoil or STP before an oil change. If the ticking is there when the car is fully warm then its carbon on valves. Our cars run rich and thus carbon is a problem. Amsoil makes a good combustion cleaner but most parts stores will have something in a spray can, even GM dealers, they are all similar. You can also try a good fuel cleaner (add to gas) like Amsoil or Redline, full strength. That will also help but not as good. Believe it or not, Canadian Tire has an excellent fuel injection cleaning service. Its about $120 but it is really good. They also clean out the intake.
