No fuel or drained battery would not feel the same.
Drained battery would turn over very slowly.
No fuel would turn over at normal speed, just not fire..
Which was it?

If it turned over slowly, then you are chasing the right things with battery/starter/alternator/starter relay

If it turned over quickly, I would suspect something else. Maybe ECU, coil pack, or no fuel...pump fuse or ground, or???
