Yeah it does sound like drivetrain.
But FWIW, I've had situations where the car idles fine but doesn't want to go when it's in gear. It was a MAFS problem.

Based on what Kyle said about the splines and then Reza's comment (read: hint), I think I'd be doing some research into drivetrain compatibility
