Anyway, none of these solutions (bulkhead fitting, new sending unit, etc) can fix broken studs. There are ways around it if you happen to break some, but it's best not to break any.

Either way, once you get those suckers off, just anti-seize the crap out of them whenever you put them back on. I can't understand how they thought 6 of the tiniest studs ever, attached to the tank and exposed to the elements would be a good idea.
