If your are pulling the cluster it would be a good idea to check the wiring from there to the sender just to rule out faulty wiring.
That's the only thing left to check. Hopefully its the same wire front to back. Worked on a GM once and the wire changed colors 3 times front to back. And was on the wrong side of the car.
